ECHO Young in Poland

From July 28th to 31st, our ECHO Young Ambassadors, together with other enthusiastic students, went on an organ trip to Kraków and its surroundings. Thanks to the excellent organization by Artur Szczerbinin and Krzysztof Urbaniak, we enjoyed a colorful program with many different historical organs.
On the first day, we visited Tyniec, where a newly built Renaissance organ stands. The
sounds were very unique, colorful, and “odd” — in a good way. We explored the organ’s possibilities in the peaceful setting of an old monastery. It was a great opportunity to support each other while discovering new registrations together! Colorful and rich sounds, the solemn atmosphere of the old convent, and a vivid, curious group — what a combination.
We left at prayer time and returned to Kraków for dinner together, of course. A day can never end better than with a good conversation.

On the second day, we headed to Olkusz. Along the way, we enjoyed some Polish
landscapes while listening to Krzysztof tell us about Polish history and many fascinating stories. The round, singing sound of the Hummel-Nitrowski organ in Olkusz was an absolute treat for the ears! The wide pedalboard is quite challenging to play, but the fine touch of the manual mechanics offered a very special experience.

On the third day, we went to Stary Sącz to visit a one-manual organ. The hospitality of the local church was heartwarming, and before exploring the organ we were treated to some delicious sweets — a perfect combination. Krzysztof is clearly an expert in both organs and desserts!
Our final stops were back in Kraków itself. We visited the magnificent Basilica and the
Church of the Holy Cross, where we could explore two romantic and modern instruments.
Kraków is such a vivid city, full of cultural heritage but also modern vibes — and very good food! I’m sure everyone enjoyed not only the organs, but also the city itself.

It was truly an unforgettable trip. Many thanks to Artur Szczerbinin and Krzysztof Urbaniakfor the wonderful organization and all the arrangements, and a big thank-you to Paweł Michalik as well for driving us around. Without their organization, warm welcome, and great
initiative, this trip would not have been possible. We hope to continue our collaboration and look forward to more inspiring trips and activities in the future!
