Francesca Ajossa wins the J.P. Sweelinck Prize 2026

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from the world of organ music: Francesca Ajossa has been selected as the recipient of the J.P. Sweelinck Prize 2026!

This prestigious prize is awarded every four years by the Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck Prize Foundation, with the aim of supporting and encouraging exceptional young organists to develop into true ambassadors of the organ.

Francesca impressed the jury on Saturday, May 17, during a special event held at the Orgelpark in Amsterdam, where she presented her artistic vision through a project entitled Inspired by Sound and Listening Spaces. Her thoughtful concept, combined with a compelling performance, earned her the top spot among three talented finalists.

The other finalists, Henrike van Tuijl and Poppeia Berden, also submitted inspiring proposals. Each candidate had a chance to speak with the jury in the afternoon, followed by a live performance in the evening on the Orgelpark’s beautiful collection of instruments.

What made Francesca’s proposal stand out?

According to the jury — Anneke Hogenstijn, Pieter-Jelle de Boer, and Oene van Geel — Francesca delivered a project that was well-structured, artistically rich, and filled with a clear vision for the future of organ music. Her performance was praised for its musical intelligence and sensitive use of both the instruments and the acoustics of the space.

The jury is confident: Francesca has all the makings of a true ambassador for the organ.

A proud moment for ECHO

Francesca is also an ECHO Young Ambassador, and we at ECHO are especially proud of her achievement. Her dedication and creativity are a true reflection of what ECHO stands for — and we’re excited to see her vision take flight through this unique opportunity.

What’s next?

As part of the prize, Francesca will design and perform a two-day Organ Weekend as artist-in-residence in 2026 — a chance to bring her creative vision to life and share it with a wide audience. She’ll also receive professional coaching to support the development and production of her project, including aspects like PR, fundraising, and artistic planning.

Details about the exact dates and location of her Organ Weekend will be shared soon — so keep an eye on the ECHO website!
