A Magical Evening in Freiberg – Here We Are
It’s already been a few days since the world premiere of Here We Are, but the experience still lingers — in sound, in memory, and in emotion. On that special evening, the Freiberg Cathedral was filled with people of all ages and backgrounds, all brought together by a shared love for music and discovery.
At the heart of this event was the premiere of a new composition by Australian composer Cathy Milliken. The work, created especially for this occasion, brought together a remarkable group of performers: children from the Gottfried Silbermann Primary School, the pre-choir and main choir of the Freiberg Cathedral, the Dresden Motet Choir, percussionist Ravi Srinivasan, and Albrecht Koch at the organ. The whole performance was guided with great care and energy by conductor Matthias Jung.
What made this project truly unique was the way the libretto came to life — developed in workshops with the children themselves. Their words, ideas, and imagination became the foundation of a piece that spoke of connection, identity, and the world we share. Seeing (and hearing!) them perform their own texts with such enthusiasm and authenticity was deeply moving.
A huge thank-you goes out to everyone who played a part in making this performance happen — from behind-the-scenes preparation to the energy on stage. And a special thanks to the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation & ECHO for supporting this beautiful project.
This was more than just a concert — it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.
