PUGET
Church Saint-Pierre-des-Chartreux Toulouse
Organ details
History
The instrument was commissioned in 1877 by Abbé Tournamille, rector of the chapel of the Catholic Workers’ Circle of Saint-Cyprien in Toulouse (located at 35 allée de Garonne, today Allées Charles de Fitte). He financed the organ from his own funds for use by the choral society he directed. It was built by Eugène Puget and inaugurated by Joseph Leybach, organist of Toulouse’s metropolitan cathedral, on December 27, 1877.
In 1902, Chanoine (Canon) Tournamille was appointed parish priest of Saint-Pierre des Chartreux and had the organ transferred there by Jean‑Baptiste Puget.
The organ is entirely enclosed in an expressive box and remains one of the most charming choir organs in the city—alongside the one at the Notre-Dame la Daurade basilica, also by Eugène Puget (1881).
