It has become a well-established tradition for "Leuven Orgelstad" to conclude its concert season with "Leuven Orgelt & Beiert", held every year since 2012 on the second Saturday of October. As the name suggests, this afternoon focuses on both organs and carillons—the city's resounding heritage.
In 2015, this is not a walking tour through the city but an event hosted at the Vlierbeek Abbey. Central to the celebration is the new bell installation, an automatic carillon, introduced to mark the 900th anniversary of Vlierbeek Abbey.
For the occasion, this is complemented by Jan Verheyen’s mobile carillon. There are also performances for children, providing an engaging and educational introduction to the workings of carillons and organs using the interactive organ and carillon.
Naturally, the magnificent Le Picard organ in the abbey church takes center stage with two special concerts: organ and recorder (featuring titular organist Paul Van Hooff and Odette Meyers) and organ combined with dance (featuring organist-in-residence Francesca Ajossa and dancer Alessia Crema).
