Trondheim - NO

City member

Trondheim is a city located in the middle of Norway, founded in 997. It is one of Norway's oldest cities.
King Olav Haraldsson, later known as Olav the Holy, was buried here a thousand years ago. His actions were decisive in defining Norway, and his legacy still lives on in the Norwegian people. Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace are both built in the name of Olav the Saint. Pilgrims from all over the world come to visit the cathedral, as thousands of people have done before them in the Middle Ages. We are really proud of our historical heritage.
Today, Trondheim is a vibrant and growing city, but it is also a quiet and safe city. Trondheim is a big city with a small town atmosphere. In 2025, we will have approximately 215,000 inhabitants.
Trondheim is Norway's capital for science, technology and knowledge. Our university, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), is the largest university in Norway. Every year we welcome international students from different countries.
SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia, also has its head office in Trondheim.
Trondheim municipality is proud of its status as a member of ECHO - European Cities of Historical Organs. A number of organ concerts are organized in Nidaros Cathedral throughout the year.
I would recommend a visit to our beautiful city. You are welcome at any time.
