Johann Friedrich Röpke
Johann Friedrich Röpke was born in Magdeburg, Germany in 1994. He grew up in a musical environment and was strongly inspired by his grandfather, church musician Jürgen Irmscher. It was him that firstly taught him to play the piano at the age of five years. From 2007 onward, he also gave him organ lessons.
After having completed his “Abitur”, Johann Friedrich Röpke lived and worked in Cambridge (GB) for one year. During that time, he was able to take lessons from the English organist Anne Page.
Beginning in 2014, he has been studying church music at the church music college “Evangelische Hochschule für Kirchenmusik” in Halle (Saale), Germany, the town where G.F.Handel was born. There, his organ teacher was Professor Matthias Dreißig. He successfully finished his Bachelor’s degree in 2018 and his Master’s degree in 2021.
In February 2021 he was appointed for the post of Director of Music of the city congregation of Altenburg, Germany. Beside of all the music in the city churches, he is also responsible for the historic organs of the congregation. Therefore, he founded the “Central German Organ Association Altenburg” in 2022 and helped to bring the city into the ECHO-Network.
