Lunch Concert - Wagner Organ - Baroque Festival
Experience the incredible organ music of one of the greatest German organ composers before Bach!
Through five concerts during the Baroque Festival, Erling With Aasgård and his outstanding organ students from NTNU bring to life the music of a composer regarded by some as one of the greatest organ composers of all time. Matthias Weckmann (1619–1674) studied under the masters Schütz and Praetorius. In the generations following him, we find Buxtehude and Bach.
Weckmann's music is imaginative, evocative, powerful, and full of surprises. He often employed the free, improvisational style known simply as stilus fantasticus. This is truly fantastic music!
The concerts will, of course, be performed on the unique historical Wagner organ from 1742, located in Nidaros Cathedral.
