SERENADA DELLA PACE
Festive Music by Benedikt Anton Aufschnaiter, Georg Muffat, Johann Joseph Fux, and others
Benedikt Anton Aufschnaiter, a native of Kitzbühel, was one of the grand masters of South German-Austrian instrumental music around 1700. He dedicated his collections of works to important figures, including Emperor Leopold I and his son and successor, Joseph I. Several compositions have survived individually, including suites from the Benedictine monastery of Seitenstetten, Lower Austria, which were very modern for their time and varied in their instrumentation. In our twentieth court music project, we present a selection of Aufschnaiter's instrumental music combined with works by his contemporaries. Of course, his predecessor as Passau Court Kapellmeister, the great Georg Muffat, and Johann Josef Fux, whose career shares many parallels with Aufschnaiter's, cannot be left out. With our first purely instrumental project, we continue our long-term collaboration with the municipality of Kitzbühel and the Benedikt Anton Aufschnaiter Research Center located there. We are also combining our small anniversary with a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Innsbruck.________________________________________
